Rep. Brad Miller’s Statement on President Obama’s Community College Initiative
Washington, D.C. - President Obama announced today a community college initiative that will provide $12 billion over the next decade to help improve programs, courses, and facilities at two-year institutions.
"With unemployment rising and an increasingly competitive world economy, community colleges are at the forefront of retraining our workforce and providing our students with a low cost, close-to-home education," said Rep. Brad Miller (NC-13). "This investment in community colleges is an investment in our economic future, and our children’s economic future."
Rep. Miller founded the Community College Caucus in 2005 in order to raise the profile of Community Colleges on Capitol Hill.
"When I first came to Congress, there was very little discussion about the important role that community colleges play in developing the national workforce. Now with the Obama Administration’s initiative, community colleges are finally getting the attention they deserve."
