Veterans
It is easy to talk about supporting the troops. But in though times like these, those who have served our country deserve more than just talk. I have fought to provide real benefits for returning soldiers. I voted for a new GI Education Bill to restore the promise of a full, four-year education for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. The GI Bill following World War II provided opportunity for millions of Americans, and we should do no less for those who are fighting for us today.
I also voted for the largest veterans' health care funding increase in history for soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. And I voted for pay raises totaling almost 7.5% over two years for serviceman. We need to make the right choices and help the men and women who have done so much for all of us.
In this Congress I was responsible for legislation that ensure that our men and women serving overseas have legal protection when their assignments keep them from meeting financial obligations at home. Service members will never again have to worry that their home may be foreclosed on, or their business seized while they are fighting for their country.
Finally, for over 30 years Marines and their families who served at Camp Lejeune were exposed to toxic drinking water. I am fighting hard to ensure that those service members and their families who were harmed get the medical care that they deserve.
